Liberal Youth Councillor Demands Action on Parklands Traffic Issues 22nd Feb 2008

Councillor Portia Wilson (pictured, right) has called on Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) to take action after reporting a string of traffic issues in the ward. Cllr Wilson last week presented NCC with a report detailing the problems and demanded councillors and officers break their silence to take action.

The report catalogues problems of poor and dangerous parking, visibility problems, inappropriate speed limits and congestion, as well as suggesting a range of solutions. Parklands residents were also given the opportunity to comment and submit evidence to the report, which has been forwarded onto NCC by Cllr Wilson.

"I have spoken to a number of people at NCC about these issues over the past few months but nobody has taken any notice," said Cllr Wilson.

She continued: "I have even suggested to Cllr Brandon Eldred that if money is an issue perhaps he could use some of his Councillor Empowerment Fund.

"It is only since I compiled all the evidence and presented NCC with a written report that I have actually had a response.

"I have now secured a meeting with officers from NCC Highways department, out of which I hope will come some solutions. The key is enforcement of existing powers, which would solve a lot of the issues for local residents.

"I have tried to make it as easy as possible for NCC by documenting all the evidence and offering some solutions, but until recently this was met with inertia and a total lack of enthusiasm.

"I am pleased that NCC have finally responded to me and look forward to hearing how they plan to resolve these issues."
